Having cared for two cats for seven years, I’ve had quite some experience with looking for the best-rated cat trees. I’ve narrowed down my selections based on budget, preference, and functions. Unfortunately, my cats are a bit overweight, so I also consider myself an expert on the best cat tree for large cats!

Living a minimalist lifestyle, I don’t buy much stuff, but when I do buy something, I make sure it’s the best I can find. That’s why I do way more research than the next person. Since I’ve basically read all the reviews for all cat trees, I’m sharing this information so you don’t have to waste hours of your life doing the same 😉 The best cat tree doesn’t mean most expensive or most flashy, but it has to be a mix of quality and value for your money.

Here are my best finds – I hope it helps make you and your kitties super happy! Making all kitties happy is probably my ultimate goal in life.

Best Cat Tree Value for Your Money

Standing at higher than 5 feet, this cat tree is truly a playground for your cat.

With a ladder to climb and scratch, a hammock to swing, a private condo to snooze, and a high tower to perch and look down upon those less than 5 feet high, your cat will love what has consistently been one of the best rated cat trees.

This cat tree comes in 4 colors: beige, black, blue, and brown. I recommend choosing the one that matches the color of your cat.

Shedding is inevitable – anyone in a feline household will attest to this. But if you have a golden cat, get the beige. If you have a black cat, get the black. This way, at least the fur draped all around your tree will be somewhat camouflaged until you have a chance to clean it!

Best Cat Tree That Actually Looks like a Tree

If we’re getting a cat TREE, shouldn’t it actually look like a tree?!

For anyone who has ever agonized over killing yet another plant in their house, I have the best cat tree for you!

If you’ve always wanted some “greenery” in your home, but keep killing off ever the (supposedly) easiest to maintain houseplants, you may have considered getting a fake tree. Why not combine a fake tree into a cat structure and both you and your cat can be happy.

This cat tree comes in 3 sizes, which just represent how many platform levels there are. Small has 1 platform, medium: 2, and large: 3.

Best Cat Tree to Last a Lifetime

For those who have ever purchased a cat tree before, you understand that it goes through a lot of wear and tear. To those who haven’t, just believe us.

  • The rope used to create the scratching posts start to fray as they are used.
  • The tree itself is difficult to clean because the padded platforms are not washable.
  • And as much as the “easy installation” feature was nice because it only took 5 minutes to build, the few screws loosen up over time and tall cat trees get fairly wobbly.

If you want one tree to last a lifetime, I have the perfect one for you! This cat tree is one of the best looking cat trees, in my opinion.

It is super elegant so you won’t have to worry about having a giant cat tree messing with your interior design look. It doesn’t have the scratching posts that start fraying over time. Instead, it has carpeted platforms that you can replace – you can order replacement parts from their website. Additionally, the cushions have removable and washable covers so you can clean this tower whenever you want.

Best Cat Tree If You Don’t Want a Cat Tree

This well-designed cat tree was made specifically to fold away. Perhaps you frequently host dinner parties and don’t want a cat structure taking up 10% of your floor space. Or perhaps you move a lot and want something that you can easily transport.

I don’t think it’s the best-looking cat tree out there, but your cats will love perching themselves on the upper levels to look down on you. The platforms are carpeted to provide a convenient scratching mat for your cats.

I can imagine that on one of the levels, you could even add a small cat bed for a more cushioning feeling for your cat to truly snooze off.

Best Eco-Friendly Cat Tree

If you’re looking for a tree that has low VOCs and avoids the varnishes that may contain carcinogens, consider this cat tree that comes untreated.

The wood used to construct this cat tree is unfinished, leaving you to either appreciate the natural wood look in your home or paint it yourself with a VOC-free varnish or paint of your choice.

This cat tree is also perfect for those for whom interior design revolves around a particular color. If everything in your home is a shade of purple, but you can’t find a purple cat tree, get this and paint it purple!

Best Cat Tree for Large Cats

If you have a big cat, you probably should not get a tall cat tree, unless it’s a very high-quality cat tree. I’ve found that the “easy to assemble”ones generally use twist-in screws and other parts that easily grow loose over time.

If you have a tall cat tree and a heavy cat, your tree will start wobbling at the top. If the base is not wide enough, it is a real concern that the tree will tip over.

Save yourself the worry and stick to a shorter cat tree that has a solid base. This is my choice for the best cat tree for large cats, though it pretty much looks more like a cat tree stump. However, it should suit your purpose, and your cat will enjoy being perched one level up.

  1. Cat trees are very useful for both felines and their owners because they provide the cat with a place to climb, scratch and play, and help you save your furniture from the claws of your pet.
